Held inaugural
reception and dinner for some 150 guests in honor of President Nazarbayev
and senior Kazakhstani officials in April 1999.
Co-hosted
with the Embassy of Kazakhstan a large reception with some 200 guests
in honor of the Government Delegation of Kazakhstan during the Sixth U.S.-Kazakhstan
Joint Commission meeting in December 1999.
Provided
a report in October 1999 to the Ambassador of Kazakhstan on the current
perspectives of some twenty American companies on the business climate
in Kazakhstan.
Hosted
five visiting Kazakhstani parliamentarians in a June 1999 luncheon with
Washington company representatives to discuss the role of corporation
government affairs representatives in the United States.
Held a
breakfast meeting in May 1999 with the new U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan,
Richard Jones, to discuss the investment climate and a luncheon meeting
with him in August 1999 to discuss how to improve the investment climate
of Kazakhstan for foreign investors.
Hosted
a small get-acquainted dinner in September 1999 with the U.S. Caspian
Basin Energy Diplomacy Advisor, Ambassador John Wolf, to launch a government-business
dialogue on oil supplies available for the proposed Baku-Ceyhan pipeline,
and a larger luncheon with him in October 1999 on the state of international
negotiations to encourage east-west energy transportation infrastructure
for the Caucasus and Caspian region.
Held an
informal seminar meeting in July 1999 with three outbound U.S. officials
concerned with commercial, energy, and environmental issues in Kazakhstan
to exchange views with business representatives about key interests and
investment conditions.
Established
close working relationship with the Embassy of Kazakhstan at all levels
to encourage support for Association undertakings and positions on investment
and business issues, and developed close working relationships with key
U.S. government officials in the executive and legislative branches.
