Kazakhstan President Nazarbayev’s “Kazakhstan 2050″ has many goals to modernize Kazakhstan and engage citizens. One is to achieve his publicly stated goal of a “Kazakhstan without orphans.” A citizen-led movement, Every Child Needs a Family, has picked up the mantle and is working to make a Kazakhstan without orphans a reality. At the Kazakh government’s invitation in October of 2014, Kidsave’s CEO, Randi Thompson and Tatiana Stafford, Director of Eastern Europe and CIS visited Kazakhstan to testify in public hearings addressing best practices in the US foster care system. They had many meetings with government officials to discuss what it will take to thoroughly meet Kazakhstan’s goals of de-institutionalizing all children. Kidsave wants to be helpful in any way it can to ward reaching this goal. Kidsave trains social and government workers on the Family Visit Model, which has been successful in placing children in loving families on 4 continents.
